Born in Basrah in 1974, Wissam Shawkat

Matti Graduated from the Department of

Civil Engineering, University of Basrah in

Iraq. Having developed a great interest

in calligraphy at an early age, he started

to learn calligraphy in 1984 with the

encouragement of his teacher Mohammed

Redha Suhail. He started his profession

as a calligrapher and designer in 1990. He

participated in many group exhibitions

in Iraq and abroad and won many prizes.

He specialized in Arabic type design and

logotypes. He held lectures and workshops

and wrote articles on the art of calligraphy.
